How to treat tongue-tie by scissor frenotomy creating a diamond-shaped wound, no general anesthesia, no sutures and with gentle aftercare for positive functional outcomes

Scissors frenotomy creating a diamond-shaped wound is sometimes needed and is established in some regions with good outcomes. Scissors frenotomy creating a diamond-shaped wound is not known in all regions. This method of frenotomy consists of a cut in the midline limited by the grooved director, no cut into the genioglossus, and no sutures, followed by breastfeeding and simple, pleasant tongue exercises, without stretching the wound (active wound management, AWM). Scissors frenotomy is a low-cost and low-threshold intervention, requiring simple equipment and with a very short duration, however profound knowledge of the provider is necessary.

In the workshop, we cover the whole process in detail, starting with evaluation and counseling for breastfeeding / feeding / speech / airway health, assessment of the tongue movements and the lingual frenulum, preparing and carrying out the scissors frenotomy (with the important details, with videos), aftercare with gentle exercises and measures in the areas affected. How to do scissors frenotomy with slight modifications for babies, toddlers, children, teenagers and adults, for all of them without general anesthesia, will be presented. The possible outcome drawn from extensive documentation in the past will be presented.
